"this is Maud Stevens Wagner (Feb, 1877 - Jan, 1961)
she was the first well known female tattoo artist in the U.S. Maud was a circus aerialist and contortionist, who learned to tattoo from her husband Gus Wagner"

"Erma Ward, a circus trapeze artist, dangles high in a circus tent."

Elefante

As you may know (and I will repeat often), I so greatly adore the circus, cirque, circo... I was immediately transported to the depression era & into the circus ways of life transcribed in the pages of this magical book. It is such a beautifully vivid & visual story.
If you haven't already done so, give it a read! I recently saw the trailer for the film adaptation. I wonder if it'll live up to my other circus favorites; the sadly cancelled  "Carnivale" & the dreamy magic "Big Fish"...
